How To Steer and Manoeuvre with Your New EKick Scooter

Learning To Manoeuvre Your Electric Kick Scooter with Ease

EKick Scooter Speed

Most low to mid sized electric kick scooters can reach speeds of 25kph(15mph), which is pretty fast for a small vehicle being powered by a bunch of small sized batteries bunched together in a block like case. Add to that the weight of the scooter itself, combined with the riders weight, and you realize how efficient this small micro vehicle is. The fact that it can be folded, then carried, just adds to its portability - and cuteness!

EKick Scooter Ride Basics

So exactly how do you ride this ekick scooter. It certainly doesn't look complicated. Of course it isn't, but take heed, and follow a few tips that will make your commute safe and get you where you need to go.

To prop yourself on your scooter, use your best foot first then place your other foot behind it, this provides for the best balance when scooting along. Keep both hands on the handlebars, where you can easily use the throttle and brake lever. Stand straight with just a slight bend at your knees. If your scooter has one use your back foot to use the foot brake on the fender. Slow your scooter when traveling on uneven ground or debris. If riding in the rain give yourself more distance for braking. And, check the ip rating of your scooter, to see the rainfall type it is rated for.

How To Ride Your EKick Scooter

How to Accelerate The Scooter

To get your electric kick scooter moving along, you must give it a push with your one foot while the other is on the deck; jump on the scooter, then accelerate with the throttle. There are various throttle types, and your scooter's brochure will explain its' use. Best practice is slow acceleration; to slowly get your scooter moving, especially if your just learning to ride. Otherwise, you could jump the scooter and yourself which could cause you to fall with the scooter.

Braking Distance

Practice braking before you venture into busy traffic. Travel slow then speed along, to get a good idea of how much time you need to brake at different speeds and distances. When braking bend at the knees, and straighten our your arms while also allowing your body to move back somewhat, this give you proper balance. Don't brake abruptly, you could end up flying over your handlebars. And, braking on wet terrain can require more braking time, so try and give yourself extra braking time when the roads are wet.

How To Manoeuvre Turns

Much like riding a regular bicycle, when you turn your scooter, you lean your body in the direction your going. However, the tires are very small compared to a regular bicycle, so be careful not to make any quick turns on your kick scooter, best to plan ahead. Also, the handlebar width can make turning easier with a kick scooter. So, basically, a longer handlebar length gives you a safer turn while a shorter handlebar can allow you to make a quicker turn, but not necessarily a safe one. Like braking, practice different turn angles before you head out into the congested traffic areas of your city. That way, you will keep yourself and everyone around you safe.

Wear A Helmet - Protective Gear

Although they are not yet mandated in city bylaws for every age group, wearing a helmet is a very good idea. And, if your a new scootee, get some elbow and knee gear for your commute as well. They are affordable, and you can buy them online or locally.
